Mondegreens

Haven't had time to post in a while, so I'll just share a juicy misunderstanding from my museum. In one of the historic houses, the interpreter told some local visitors that the house's former resident owned "a pawn shop". There's no problem with that -- it's true -- until you filter it through the hardcore Yankee accent that we up no'th of Bastan enjoy. It becomes a very different kind of shop, of which our city does boast many. They are very popular with truckers on the Post Road.
